Liberal Democrat conference
Tuesday, October 02, 2012
The main news from Liberal Democrat Party Conference, which
started on Saturday 22nd September, was that party
leader Nick Clegg had signaled that he still wants to
introduce a mansion tax before 2015 and wants to negotiate on this
issue with both David Cameron and George Osborne before the
Chancellor's Autumn statement in December. In addition, the Liberal
Democrats also announced that they are looking at a policy which
would allow younger members of families to secure mortgages against
the pensions of older family members. The so called 'Pension for
Property' scheme has been criticised by a number of organisations
as being unworkable and for not providing a real answer to the
problems with the UK housing market.
