Less than two months to go until Scotland deadline

Friday 03 August 2018

Have you submitted your application to join the Scottish Letting Agent Register yet? If not, you need to at least start your application now, as it will take some time to complete to complete the process.

If you carry out letting agency work in Scotland, you must make an application to the Register by 1 October 2018. After this date it will be an offence to carry out letting agency work without having submitted a valid application.

An application will only be valid if it has, alongside all the other necessary information, the relevant application fee. If you intend to pay the application fee by invoice, you will need to submit your application by 2 September. This is to ensure all invoices have been processed and paid before the 1 October.

After 2 September, you will be required to pay the application fee online. Apply after the deadline and you'll have to pay substantially higher fees - anything up to £970 per office - and may be investigated and fined up to £50,000, or even receive a prison sentence, for failing to comply.

The good news is that as an ARLA Propertymark member you're already well ahead of your competition. As long as you hold a Level 6 qualification you should already meet most, if not all the requirements to apply as the same criteria has been an inherent part of membership for years.
