Rent Smart Wales takes stock and makes public register live

Tuesday 14 March 2017

Recent information provided to ARLA Propertymark from Rent Smart Wales shows that as of 31 January 2017 around 32,213 people have been trained for the purpose of obtaining a licence with Rent Smart Wales.

Under the rules, landlords need to be suitably trained and licensed to carry out letting or property management activities or arrange for a trained and licensed agent to undertake these activities on their behalf.

Rent Smart Wales was first launched across Wales on 23 November 2015, requiring all landlords with property in Wales to register both themselves and their rental property addresses with Rent Smart Wales.

At the end of January, Rent Smart Wales reported that 97,171 user accounts have been established on the system and 72,521 landlord registrations have been completed. The total number of licences applications submitted (landlord and agent) is 22,254.

In order to ensure more landlords and agents are complying with the rules, Rent Smart Wales will be undertaking another phase of radio advertising in the coming weeks. We have also been informed that Rent Smart Wales are re-printing the Rent Smart Wales booklet and posters, with copies being sent to each local authority.

Finally, now available on the Rent Smart Website is the Public Register which can be used by all members of the public to check whether a landlord is registered and those landlords and agents who undertake letting and management activities are licensed.
