Support ARLA's campaign to make Client Money Protection compulsory and increase protection for tenants and landlords.
To coincide with ARLA’s proposed amendment to the Housing and Planning Bill 2015 to make membership of a Client Money Protection scheme compulsory for all letting agents, the Association is supporting a petition to ensure MPs fully understand the importance of this issue and back the change.
Letting agents hold a significant amount of money in the form of deposits and rent on behalf of tenants and landlords. Client money protection ensures that funds are held in a designated account and in the event of an agency going bust or misappropriating funds it offers landlords and tenants a route to compensation.
If the petition entitled ‘Make Client Money Protection compulsory for all letting agents’ gets 10,000 signatures the Government will be forced to respond. However, if the petition reaches 100,000 signatures it will be considered for debate in Parliament.
