Introduction to Block Management

This one day course will enable attendees to learn about the role of a block manager and develop their understanding of the day-to-day tasks involved. They will learn the basic skills required of the role, such as how to budget and what is required to collect service charges and ground rent.

Delegates will also be introduced to other core topics, such as statutory codes of conduct, statutory consultation for major works, and the RICS Service Charge Code, in order for them come away from the course with a rounded grasp of their obligations as a block manager.

Property professionals who are new to block management and need to understand what is involved within the role.

  • What is the role of a Block Manager? Explaining what may be involved
  • Basic guide to Budgeting
  • Collecting Service Charges and Ground rents: what is involved including reference to statutory procedures?
  • Guide to Leaseholders rights and good practice.
  • Introduction to statutory codes of conduct and review of RICS Service Charge Code and your obligations.
  • Overview of Statutory Consultation for major works and long term agreements.

David Whitney

David is a solicitor with PainSmith Solicitors and an accredited mediator who also sits as a fee paid Judge of the First Tier Tribunal (Property Chamber). David has specialised in the field of property litigation for the past 18 years and has developed a particular specialism in the field of long residential leasehold work.

He regularly assists freeholders, managing agents and leaseholders with the full range of issues that arise in this niche area, representing at Court and Tribunal as appropriate.
