Propertymark launch Tenant Fees Toolkit Wales

Wednesday 21 August 2019

ARLA Propertymark has launched a Tenant Fees Toolkit for letting agents working in Wales to help members prepare for the Renting Homes (Fees etc.) (Wales) Act 2019.

The fee ban – requiring that tenants are not obliged to make payments outside of those specified in the Act – comes into force on 1 September 2019. Any payment a tenant is required to pay, unless permitted by the Act, is banned and is a ‘prohibited payment’.

The Toolkit has been designed to support agents in dealing with this highly complex piece of legislation.

The Tenant Fees Toolkit Wales includes:

  • Nine new fact sheets
  • A comprehensive list of FAQs
  • New fee templates
  • Tenant guide
  • Landlord guide
  • Case study from Scotland
  • 10 top tips
  • New legal documents
  • Videos

The Toolkit is a key member benefit, designed to support members through the biggest challenge facing the lettings industry for many years. It pulls together resources to help agents through the wide range of scenarios that they are likely to face. It is only available through your ARLA Propertymark membership.

Commenting, David Cox, Chief Executive of ARLA Propertymark said

“The Tenant Fees Toolkit we’re launching today, together with the Government’s guidance, will help members comply with the Renting Homes (Fees Etc.) (Wales) Act 2019 and operate in a post tenant fees world. In less than two weeks, the ban comes into force, and therefore it’s crucial agents are well prepared and have implemented the necessary changes within their business to ensure they are compliant with the law.”
