Christopher Pincher is tenth Housing Minister in a decade

Friday 14 February 2020

Christopher Pincher MP has been appointed Housing Minister in the cabinet reshuffle replacing Esther McVey. Mr Pincher is the MP for Tamworth and was previously the Minister of State for Europe and the Americas.

Outgoing Housing Minister Esther McVey has seen out just under seven months as Housing Minister, having been appointed to the role in late July 2019. Her successor will become the tenth Housing Minister in as many years, a fact that has drawn ire from property industry commentators.

I’m very sorry to be relieved of my duties as Housing Minister… I wish my successor the very best and every success. I’m very grateful to the Prime Minister for having given me the opportunity to serve in his government and he will continue to have my support from the back benches.

Delighted to be appointed as the @mhclg Minister of State for Housing - though sad to be leaving a great team at @foreignoffice.

This Government will deliver on our commitment to build the housing that people need. Looking forward to getting stuck in alongside @RobertJenrick.

We welcome Christopher Pincher as the new Housing Minister. Unfortunately, the lack of continuity in this post and the persistent changes means it’s near impossible for anyone in the role to make an impact.

Fixing the broken housing market should be the priority, and there’s a number of consultations and policy that requires action – most importantly the Regulation of Property Agents. We forward to working with the new Minister on these important changes to the industry.
