Founder of Leicestershire estate agents steps down from the helm

Monday 16 January 2017

Over 27 years after setting up estate agency Andrew Granger & Co, and growing the company to become one of the largest independent agencies in the East Midlands, founder Andrew Granger has decided to step down from his current role.

As part of a long planned move which came into effect from 1 January 2017, the Harborough based businessman will withdraw from the day to day running of the company. However, he will continue to work as a consultant for the foreseeable future.

Having set up Andrew Granger & Co in 1989, Andrew has seen the agency grow substantially. From his first small office based in St Mary’s Road in Market Harborough, the company now has over 50 directors and staff across three offices in Harborough, Leicester and Loughborough.

“I’ve always been fascinated by property and always loved working with clients, so in many ways I’ve had the perfect job since I started working in the sector in 1970” explains Andrew. “This isn’t a decision I’ve taken lightly and it has been a long time in the planning. I feel that the time is right to formally take a backseat as the team around me is highly skilled and knowledgeable. I have no doubt that they will take the business in new and exciting directions.

“I’m also looking forward to working in a consultancy based role and leaving the day to day running of the company to the excellent team who make up the board.”

As well as a career encompassing professional property services and planning, Andrew has become involved in a range of diverse roles and successes. Significant achievements include becoming President of the Leicestershire Chamber of Commerce in 2007 and the Deputy Lieutenant of the County of Leicestershire in 2008. Andrew has also held the title of the National President of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers and is a Freeman of the City of Glasgow.

However, his achievements have extended beyond his profession. Andrew has also dedicated a significant amount of time to improving the lives of local people. This has involved fundraising for LOROS for over ten years, becoming a Trustee of Self Unlimited charities (formerly CARE) and joining the board of The Leicestershire Rural Partnership where he played a significant part in bringing the Harborough Innovation Centre to Market Harborough.

NAEA and ARLA licensed member Mark Sandall, Joint Managing Director who joined Andrew Granger & Co in 2000 comments: “Andrew has achieved so much since setting up the company in 1989. After so much worthwhile work over the years he certainly deserves some time off. But it’s good to know that we can still call upon his experience whenever it is required. All the staff at the company work hard to maintain his high expectations and build on the foundations that he has built this agency on. Everyone here wishes him all the best with his endeavours.”

Following Andrew’s decision, the agency has appointed Stephen Mair to the board of directors. Stephen has taken on the role of overseeing and expanding the planning and development department, one of Andrew’s previous responsibilities.
