Licensing schemes are irresponsible in the current climate

Propertymark has responded to a number of licensing scheme proposals from local authorities across England in recent months arguing that Councils who are pursuing the implementation of licensing schemes are being socially irresponsible. EU citizens will continue to pass Right to Rent checks

The lists of acceptable identification outlined in the Right to Rent Code of Practice and the need for letting agents to deliver Right to Rent checks in England continue unchanged until 30 June 2021.

EEA and Swiss nationals can continue to prove their Right to Rent by showing acceptable documents such as a passport or national identity card (as outlined in section 5.6 of the Code of Practice on Right to Rent) between 1 January and 30 June 2021.

EU Settlement Scheme

The Government is running a large-scale awareness campaign encouraging EU citizens to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme. The deadline for starting a new application has not yet passed, any EU citizens resident in the UK by 31 December 2020 continue to be eligible to start a new application to the scheme through to 30 June 2021. The scheme will enable those with settled status to continue to live, work, and study in the UK beyond June 2021.

Points Based Immigration System

EU citizens not resident in the UK before 31 December 2020, will need to apply for residency through the UK's new points-based immigration system.
