Become technology experts to drive business success

Friday 01 March 2019

There is a clear relationship between job type and IT knowledge, says Propertymark Industry Supplier Reapit, based on what they have seen of the thousands of managers, negotiators and administrators they train annually.

It is not uncommon for junior staff members to have more RPS knowledge than senior ones. Reapit's experience shows this is often due to the amount of time they are exposed to the software; however, there is another possible reason.

Many managers and senior players take the view that an understanding of the product is unnecessary at their level, and it is more important for junior staff members to learn how to use it. Some have come from a different generation, brought up on non-technological systems such as applicant cards stored in a box. They often shy away from technology, avoid training and think they can get away with leaving the computers to the juniors.

Embrace technology

This approach might have worked 10 years ago, but anyone following it today is walking a dangerous path. Reapit knows that successful agents in the online, hybrid and traditional lettings branches are embracing technology, and you will never be able to truly manage your business unless you understand how it functions. In an ideal world, managers and more senior players should have IT knowledge as good as, if not better than their staff. Granted they may not need to understand some of the routine procedural functionality as well as their administrators; however, to drive the business successfully they need to fully appreciate and monitor what their business generators are up to.

So, the insight here is simple – embrace technology, however challenging this may be. The world has changed and to keep up you must do the same.

Branch management

Reapit can help managers and other senior members of the team extend their technical knowledge and gain confidence. Their Branch Management Masterclass is a free consultative discussion-based session available to any branch manager (or equivalent) and runs regularly from their offices in London, Leeds or Birmingham. During the session managers are shown how to use power reporting to drive performance within sales or lettings branches from a management perspective.

Positive feedback

Over 600 managers have attended Reapit's masterclasses with extremely positive feedback and many of whom have had little or no previous experience of RPS.

“I found it logical and insightful. The delivery was excellent and made you want to hide away and create the reports to help the shape of your business.”

Carter Jonas

“It is rare that I find a course as useful or entertaining as this was - many of the practical tips have already been rolled out. There is a real lack of quality training generally, but this course was a cracker!”

Winkworth

“The class was a really innovative way of training by stealth! A very wide-ranging class that prompted discussion and most importantly thought.”
