Scottish Letting & Property Management - Part B

This course is aimed at those who have completed part A or have an understanding of the general legal concepts which underlie the letting of property, expanding on some of the topics covered in part A and in addition looking at some of the more trickier aspects of dealing with tenancies.

The course will also highlight some of the new or proposed legislative provisions which have yet to come into effect and consider how these will affect the role of the letting agency.  


  • Disability discrimination
  • Legal protection given to tenants and landlords under the consumer protection  and business protection  legislation, including dealing with unfair terms and unfair commercial practices
  • Landlord Registration, HMO's and the role of the Local Authority.
  • How Local Authorities deal with antisocial behaviour and what it means for landlords.
  • Letting Agents Registration and Code of Practice
  • Procedures for extension, renewal and termination of assured, and short assured tenancies and an introduction to private residential tenancies, looking in detail at the grounds for possession 
  • Common lease clauses, breach of the tenancy agreement and legal redress
  • Dealing with property repairs
  • Rent reviews and the  role of the Housing & Property Chamber
  • New and upcoming legislation

Alison Hattrick

Alison Hatrick

A qualified surveyor, with 25 years estate agency experience and a Fellow of NAEA for 20 years. Alison has held various roles including; Chairman of Scottish branch and the Scottish Home Affairs Committee.

Alison currently owns an estate agency and leasing agency on the West coast of Scotland and offers consultancy as well as training on a variety of subjects including our ARLA Scottish Letting and Property Management courses.

Corinne Peddie

Corinne Peddie

Corinne has a degree in Law and has worked for over 30 years in tertiary education, initially as a University Law Lecturer and then as a distance learning tutor, with particular emphasis in more recent times supporting online learning for students in real estate.  She provides advice on the syllabus and study materials for the legal units for the residential lettings technical award and co-wrote and presents the Scottish Letting and Property Management courses with colleague Alison Hatrick.
