Market appraisal and valuation of residential property in Scotland (virtual training)

Property valuations and appraisals are part and parcel of the working day for an estate agent. Proficiency in valuation techniques is therefore essential to be able to operate as a top-class agent. This virtual course will look initially at basic valuation theory and the various methods of valuation, followed by the application of relevant valuation methods and how these are applied to the different property types you are likely to encounter.

  • Basic economic supply and demand theory
  • Valuation bases: value, price, cost and worth
  • Market valuation and appraisals
  • Factors affecting value
  • Valuation methods including comparable, investment and residual methods along with insurance valuation
  • Application of the different valuation techniques for specific purposes, such as basic residential sales, tax and matrimonial matters, investment and development

This course comprises of three 90-minute sessions with breaks in between each session.

Ian is a chartered surveyor, with a passion for all aspects of residential property. He is keen to share the knowledge he has gained from training as a Quantity Surveyor and becoming a General Practice Surveyor and Registered Valuer.

Ian has been involved in managing a multi-practice firm of surveyors with offices across Scotland, and managing the conveyancing and estate agency teams in Edinburgh and Glasgow for one of Scotland’s top solicitor firms.
